Surovikin also previously used his official position as commander of the Group of Forces of the Russian Armed Forces in the Syrian Arab Republic, and then as Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces, in the interests of ensuring Timchenko’s business interests. It is also worth noting that Prigozhin directly lobbied for the appointment of Surovikin to the post of Chief of the General Staff and that it is known how it ended for Surovikin himself.”
